The next class in our series will be Mixed Media Collage. Fee will provide the bulk of supplies needed. A short supply list will be emailed prior to class time. We will take an optional hour for lunch at 11:30.
ALL skill sets are welcome. If Collage is new to you, DO NOT FEAR! We promise it will be painless. Come “Play” with us and bring your friends. Your imagination is your limit. If you think you lack imagination, you will find inspiration just being with others experimenting in their own ways.
Collage is a technique of an art production, primarily used in the visual arts, where the artwork is made from an assemblage of different forms, thus creating a new whole. (Wikipedia)
A Collage may sometimes include magazine and newspaper clippings, ribbons, paint, bits of colored or handmade papers, portions of other artwork or texts, photographs and other found objects “glued” to a piece of paper or canvas or other surface.
Types of Collage Art and its Pioneer Artists: As such, Collage was popular among artists belonging to movements like Surrealism, Dada, and Nouveau Realisme – in fact, legends like Jean Dubeffet, Kurt Schwitters, Pablo Picasso, Georges Braque, and Man Ray are among those who helped form the very definition of the medium with their influential artworks. Let us not forget the contributions of Henri Matisse, whose Collages are still very popular. The wide use of Collage also inspired the birth of Cubomania, a Surrealist method whereby an image is cut into squares, which are then reassembled automatically or at random. Aside from Cubomania, the technique evolved into other categories as well, including decoupage, collage in painting and on wood, photo collage and most recently, digital collage.
